This is
our family.

Nickolas Luchak and Mary Kusek immigrated to Canada in 1903 in a group of 17 families. They were married in 1912 and farmed in Hamlin, Alberta before moving to Vancouver, British Columbia in the early 1930’s during the Great Depression. Eight children were born to their family. Their story is a remarkable testament to their Ukrainian heritage, strong family bonds, resilience, and spiritual beliefs.

The poet David Whyte writes: “Each one of us has a unique signature, inherited from our ancestors, our landscape, our language, and beneath it a half-hidden geology of existence: memories, hurts, triumphs, and stories in our lineage that have not been fully told.”
